So I’ve found this site called the flash den. I think it’s been around for a while and is actually part of a bigger network. I’ll be uploading some stuff there including these:
Space collision!?
I found the recent space collision articles interesting. Who really knows whats going on when 2 satellites collide in space. It might not just be a mistake. I decided to look into it a little more.
Here’s a neat tool on the Nasa website that allows you to see satellites in 3D. Dang there are a lot of them. They even show other countries satellites which is a good thing to know if you don’t want your satellite to collide.

The two satellites involved in the collision were an iridium (communication?) satellite and a “defunct” russian cosmos satellite. There are 2 cosmos satellites listed on the nasa website 2085 and 2224.

And there are many many many iridium satellites. Mainly communication and coorperate satellites but they could be something else as well.

It says that Iridium 33 (NORAD ID 24946) communications satellite, launched in 1997, which had been reported by Iridium to be operational.
The Russian craft was the Cosmos 2251 (NORAD ID 22675) communications relay satellite, launched in 1993
Looking on Nasa’s website they don’t even have Cosmos 2251 listed. However they do have Iridium 33. Anyways interesting stuff. Now back to work!
